{"id":554,"date":"2022-05-03T13:22:50","date_gmt":"2022-05-03T13:22:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tartuh.ee\/?page_id=554"},"modified":"2026-03-03T12:41:48","modified_gmt":"2026-03-03T12:41:48","slug":"practical-information","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.tartuh.ee\/en\/admission\/radiography\/practical-information\/","title":{"rendered":"Practical Settling-In Information"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>All students who are not Estonian citizens need to apply for a visa, temporary residence permit or register their place of residence in Estonia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Visa and Residence Permit<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">EU\/EEA Citizens Right of Temporary Residence<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Citizens of the European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA) and the Swiss Confederation, shortly &#8220;EU citizens&#8221;, can stay in Estonia for up to three months on the basis of a valid travel document or identity card. In case of a more extended stay, which is the case for degree students, you must register yourself as a citizen of Tartu within three months from the date of entering Estonia and apply for the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.politsei.ee\/en\/instructions\/id-card-for-an-citizen-of-eu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Estonian ID-card<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">D-Visa for Non-EU\/EEA Citizens<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>For entering Estonia, Non-EU\/EEA Citizens need to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vm.ee\/en\/consular-visa-and-travel-information\/visa-information\/application-long-stay-d-visa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">apply for a long-term visa (D type visa)<\/a> for studies in an Estonian embassy abroad in person. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For D-visa you need the following:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Document indicating the purpose of the journey&nbsp;&#8211; this is the letter of acceptance that the University will send you;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Insurance policy&nbsp;&#8211; international travel medical insurance which guarantees payment of any costs related to medical treatment due to illness or injury during the validity of the visa;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Document proving sufficient means of subsistence for your stay in Estonia\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0<strong>please be prepared to present proof of sufficient financial means during your visa-covered stay in Estonia<\/strong>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Criminal Record Extract from the applicant&#8217;s home country.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Temporary Residency Permit<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Degree-seeking students coming to Estonia with a D-visa and staying in Estonia for one academic year or longer, are advised to start applying for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politsei.ee\/en\/instructions\/residence-permit-for-study\">the residence permit (TRP)<\/a> immediately after arriving in Estonia, regardless of the fact that they have the D-visa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NB! The process of applying for a residence permit may take about two months.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>IMPORTANT! The residence permit is given only in case of full-time studies in Estonia.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NB! All specific questions about the residence permit and required documents should be addressed to the Estonian Police and Boarder Guard Board at&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:ppa@politsei.ee\">ppa@politsei.ee<\/a> or to Migration consultants at <a href=\"mailto:migrationadvice@politsei.ee\">migrationadvice@politsei.ee<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Health Insurance<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When applying for a residence permit, you need to have a health insurance contract&nbsp;valid in Estonia during the whole validity period of the residence permit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Accommodation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Tartu Applied Health Sciences University has a dormitory. You can either find accommodation on your own or apply for a place at the dormitory. Place at the dormitory is not guaranteed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to Arrive to Tartu?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>It is easy to travel to Tartu.
