Today, February 2, over 140 first-year students begin their studies at Tartu Applied Health Sciences University (TARTUH). The opening ceremony will also serve as the official launch of the celebrations marking the university’s 215th anniversary.
“Every opening ceremony is an important event for both the university and our partners in the world of work, as it conveys a message of continuity, valuing education, and nurturing the next generation,” noted Ulla Preeden, Rector of TARTUH. “However, it is especially noteworthy that for the first time, in cooperation between TARTUH and the Police and Border Guard Board, a work-based learning group of 19 students is starting the Emergency Medical Technician programme. We believe that with the support of the programme’s graduates, the accessibility of first aid in Estonia will improve even further.”
In addition to the first-year students in the Emergency Medical Technician programme, new students are beginning their studies in the Nursing programme, in continuing education for Childcare Workers, and in the international master’s programmes in Physiotherapy and Radiotherapy.
With today’s opening ceremony, Estonia’s oldest university of applied sciences — Tartu Applied Health Sciences University, which will celebrate its 215th anniversary in November — also officially begins its anniversary year. This year’s message is: “Care for yourself!”
“As part of the university’s mission, in addition to providing high-quality health education, we also aim to promote health awareness in society. Therefore, in celebrating the anniversary, we wish to focus on opportunities that enable everyone to value and support their own health,” explained Jaanika Niinepuu, Marketing and Communications Manager at TARTUH.
Throughout the year, various events and activities will be organised across Estonia for people of all ages, aiming to bring them step by step closer to national dietary and physical activity recommendations and thereby improve overall wellbeing. These include, for example, a family sports day in Võru, discussion evenings on various topics, the Good Advice blog at tartuh.ee/215heanou, and outdoor gym training sessions across Estonia for beginners, advanced participants, teenagers, older adults, and people with disabilities. Information about the anniversary-year events at TARTUH will be compiled on the website tartuh.ee/215.
The opening ceremony will take place today, 2 February at 12:00, at Tartu Applied Health Sciences University (Nooruse 5, Tartu). The event will be broadcast live on the website: tartuh.ee/aktus.
