At the research group “Skilled Support for the Health and Well-being of Older Adults and Empowerment of Family Caregivers Research Group” at Tartu Applied Health Sciences University (TARTUH), an applied research project “The Well-being of Residents of Tartu Nursing Home from the Perspectives of Residents, Their Relatives, and Staff (2025–2028)” is currently underway.

Lecturers Eve-Merike Sooväli and Merle Varik met with Kadi Soome, Director of Tartu Nursing Home, to discuss the results of the first phase of the applied research project. According to the research team, the results were positive and reflect that residents are well cared for and that their well-being is important to the staff. Feedback and assessments from residents help to identify the strengths of everyday care practices and provide guidance for improving service quality. During the meeting, the nursing home confirmed that the results of the study have been highly significant for their work.

Kadi Soome, Director of Tartu Nursing Home:
“The results of the first phase of the applied research project have been very valuable for Tartu Nursing Home, providing evidence-based input for evaluating and developing the quality of our services. The perspectives of residents, relatives, and staff help us make well-informed decisions and strengthen good care practices. We thank Tartu Applied Health Sciences University for the professional collaboration and consider an evidence-based approach extremely important in the development of care services.”

The first phase of the applied research project has now been completed. A satisfaction survey among relatives is currently underway and is being conducted by a Master’s student in Health Sciences. In addition, in-depth interviews with staff are being carried out to gain insight into how employees interpret and understand good care.
