Tartu Applied Health Sciences University (TAHSU) collaborates with a wide network of Erasmus+ programme partners across Europe. While the university does not offer complete study programmes in English, it provides diverse and up-to-date medical internship opportunities at numerous healthcare institutions throughout Estonia. Every year TAHSU welcomes motivated Erasmus+ students from our partner universities to undergo an internship with us.
Tartu Applied Health Sciences University has been awarded the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education 2021-2027.
Our activities follow the Erasmus Policy Statement.

Application Procedures for Exchange Students
We have an online application process and once the nomination has been processed, you will be sent the link to the application form. The application documents include:
While applying for clinical placements, please make sure you have carefully specified the expected learning outcomes. Learning outcomes describe what a student is expected to know, understand, or be able to do upon completing an internship.
Please also note that in order to do an internship at a healthcare institution in Estonia, you need a general medical certificate. For that you need an occupational health examination that includes a nurse’s appointment, and potentially a chest X-ray.
It is recommended that you have followed the general vaccination scheme. Depending on the host institution of your traineeship, you may need to be vaccinated for Hepatitis B and/or submit the results of a MRSA test. You are expected to take the medical certificate with you to the institution you will be doing your internship.
Erasmus+ students require comprehensive insurance that typically includes medical, liability, and accident coverage, as mandated by the program and various host country regulations. While the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) provides some access to public healthcare within EU countries, it is often insufficient and requires a complementary private policy for full protection.
According to our Procedure for Practical Training, the university is not responsible for the liability insurance.
The application deadline for incoming Erasmus students is 15 May for the autumn semester (September-December) and 15 October for the spring semester (January-June).

Internships at TARTUH
According to the feedback we have received, foreign students value highly the quality and the hands-on experience of the internship they have done here. On average a practice day consists of 6 working hours, but different agreements with hospital supervisors are possible. It is also worth pointing out that although the university is located in Tartu, it does not automatically mean that all of the clinical practices will be carried out in Tartu. We cooperate with many healthcare institutions all over Estonia.
Please wait for the confirmation of your placement location before booking accommodation.
