Jaan Looga was elected Rector of Tartu Applied Health Sciences University

Jaan Looga has been confirmed as Rector of Tartu Applied Health Sciences University. He has worked at the university for several years in the field of research and development.

Jaan Looga will take up the position on 1 June, with a term of office lasting five years.

Jaan Looga has worked at Tartu Applied Health Sciences University since 2019 as a development specialist, research coordinator and head of research, and previously served as Executive Director of the Association of Local Authorities of Viljandi County. He graduated from the School of Economics and Business Administration at the University of Tartu and also defended his doctoral degree there.

Three candidates took part in the competition for the position of Rector of Tartu Applied Health Sciences University. A public election debate was also held, giving all interested parties the opportunity to meet the rectoral candidates.

The electoral body included representatives of the Ministry of Education and Research, representatives of the Advisory Board and Council of Tartu Applied Health Sciences University, and a representative of employers.
